[Concept]

Every year, our studio is looking for meaningful ways to connect with our clients, partners, and friends and thank them for their trust. This year, we took a conceptual approach. Under the theme "NOTHING IS WRITTEN IN STONE", we sent our community a beautifully hand-packaged stone with the word "NOTHING" engraved onto it. With it came a QR code that led to the magic: a landing page with three videos revealing the secrets of creative collaboration and 100 creative activities for recipients to include in their daily routines.

[Packaging] + [FILMS] + [WEBSITE]

The goal was for every individual in our studio to support in bringing the idea to life. Since our work stretches across strategy, design, and storytelling, we combined 3 core elements at the heart of the project: the physical design experience packaging the rock, three exploratory films, and a website to connect it all.

[packaging]
A rock-hard truth

The experience starts with a physical gift, meant to serve as a lucky-charm and a daily reminder that creativity can be the answer to the challenges at hand. You are just one stone-throw away from your next great idea.
The vacuum seal is a play on perishable foods: your creativity can also perish if you don't take good care of it. In the inside is a silver foil that mimics the water of the riverside where the rocks came from and evokes a high value feel. It's also a reflective piece where you can see yourself – creativity requires that you dig deep after all!

[NOTHING]

At the center of the concept was a hand-collected pebble from our local riverside. The play on the idiom "NOTHING IS WRITTEN IN STONE" (meaning something is not fixed, permanently defined, and therefore up to be changed) is a suiting metaphor for creativity: challenging the norm, not taking standard ways for granted, and daring to redefine, yes, redesign what could be. Over the course of several weeks, we identified the perfect size, weight, shape, and color of the rocks to be sent as a creativity-charm to our clients. Our production partner supported us with the creation of many prototypes until we got it right.

Rocks on the rocks, please. We hand-picked all river pebbles on ice-cold winter days.

[films]
Flip all rocks

The three experimental films were designed to lift the curtain to the secrets of our creative process. After unpacking hundreds of projects, the team identified three core principles that hold true to great design:
discover, create, break

[DISCOVER]

The first film unpacks discovery as a practice. No matter what project or topic you have at hand, you need to become your challenge.

[CREATE]

The second chapter is a dance between imagination and action — wether it's creating a mosaic, shaping clay, or expressing thoughts on a wall, the act of creation means stripping yourself from constraints and investing all your energy in the act itself.

[BREAK]
And just when you think you have your ideas figured out: challenge them. Break what you know, build something new and rediscover your limits.

[a rock is a tool]

After the 3 short films the website-visitor could find a set of one-hundred creative acts, carefully curated by our team, to help our recipients flex their creative muscles and inspire them to break their day-to-day routine with a little bit of creativity. The acts came with clear instructions and guidance on the time to be invested, stretching from 5 minutes to weeklong routines, like journaling. We celebrated the exploration like a ceremony and played on pop-culture puns and experimented with generative AI to help us create unique visuals to support the act.

[TRACK YOUR PROGRESS]

To help our clients to keep track of their progress, and loop back to the physical component of the gift, we added a tracking-card to the labels that came with the rock. The creative acts were numbered 1 to 100 and people could cross out the acts that they successfully completed.

[together we rock!]

Our favourite component of this project was the creative collaboration across the team. We truly created something that none of us could have imagined without the other. We are super humbled: up until this day we still receive thank you notes from our community practicing creativity out there. Keep rockin'!
